To know about the duration of implantation bleeding is the right of each woman. Pregnancy is a superb stage in the life of a woman. However, due to lack of knowledge about the physical changes and processes taking place during this great time, women are often put into the situation of confusion and worries. Women who want to become mothers are always in a puzzle with regards to one question - when does implantation happen and what its duration is. First, know that implantation is the earliest pregnancy phase taking place once the fertilization is over.
Once a menstrual cycle is over, ovaries liberate a mature egg that finds its way from the ovaries to stay in the uterus via the fallopian tube. While it is traveling, if it meets a fit sperm, the egg and the sperm unite to produce zygote that is a diploid cell and then this cell is converted into a blastocyst. All these steps are of the fertilization process. As this blastocyst steps into the uterus, it digs in the lining of the uterus. This entire process of burrowing to the lining is nothing but implantation. This lining of the uterus is completely crowded with the vital nutrients and blood, which then is converted to form the placenta. So, if this usual implantation fails, the blastocyst is removed along with the lining via the vagina during the period.
Once you know about this process, it is easy to know about the onset and duration of implantation bleeding. This bleeding always takes place once the fertilization is completed. Now, the fertilized egg requires some two to three days for getting attached with the uterus. However, the duration of implantation might be different as per the interval of the monthly menstruation. If we compute the time needed by the zygote to reach the uterus, we can find out the onset of the bleeding too.
If fertilization takes place timely, implantation might then occur after 6 to 12 days. Precisely stating, implantation takes place between the 20th and 24th day from the last menses date. However, this prediction might vary from one woman to another because each woman has a dissimilar cycle of menses. Averagely, a menstruation cycle has an interval of 28 days. If we consider this cycle, then the ovulation happens on the 14th day from the last menses. And now, if the implantation occurs on the 8th day, then the bleeding will occur on the 22nd day (14 + 8). To be more accurate, implantation happens just before a week of menses. The duration of implantation bleeding tends to be for minutes, hours, or even a day. It can even extend for two or three days.
We will now state the onset of the bleeding with respect to the IVF called In Vitro Fertilization, a process wherein the fertilization takes place outside the woman's body. This is a famous way to cure the infertility problem. In IVF, there are some major stages - ovarian stimulation, recovery of the egg, fertilization, choosing the quality of embryo, and transferring the embryo. So, once the egg is recovered, the implantation tends to happen within 6 to 12 days. This is again because once the embryo is transferred; the egg tends to enter its blastocyst stage at least after five days. Generally, embryo transfer might occur on varying days during which it is developing. Therefore, for preciseness, the day for retrieval of egg is taken as the day 0.
We hope that you will now no longer be confused in computing the duration of implantation bleeding. But keep in mind that this bleeding will not necessarily occur in each pregnancy.
